Philippines "Mexico of the Far East"! Could Duterte change that situation?

I never knew the Philippines was “a REAL southeast Asian country.” I’ve always thought of it as the Mexico of the Far East, complete with hand-me-down religion, government, and way of life from the west—where the people think like Spanish aristocrats and behave like Americans. This means Duterte will have to kill everybody, including himself, to erase everything that has defined the Philippines for centuries and start all over.

Posted by a certain Chloe Santiago on the Facebook GRP Community Group : Jose Rizal died in 1896 and Tagalog was declared the official language of the Philippine only in 1937. This can only mean that Rizal wasn't really talking about Tagalog when he made this statement: "He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish." Indeed. Who made the arbitrary directive to make the Tagalog dialect the "National Language" to begin with? Furthermore, why have a "National Language" when Filipinos are already proficient in the global lingua franca of commerce and scientific achievement?

Filipinos "nice" but lacking in common sense -- IT business manager

As someone whom invested heavily in the Philippines managing an IT company, I view your assumptions as narrow minded. I’ve given hundreds of Pinoys IQ tests as part of the selection process, the vast majority of these IT graduates ( the cream of the crap ) performed dismally. After two years operating we decided to close up and retain Singaporean Chinese staff and Brazilians. One staff member does the work of approximately 10 Pinoys. The biggest issue was a sheer lack of common sense, they can do black and white but seldom grey. Higher order thinking skills and abstract reasoning skills seemed to me missing, as they would perhaps with someone diagnosed with mild Asperger syndrome. The way Netizens are once again in the middle of another one of their shrill outrage fad "activist" campaigns against the latest bogeyman mirrors the same collective frustration and feeling of helplessness that fuels the shameful and pointless brawls that have come to characterise Philippine basketball. Sure, the Inquirer caved to the request of Senate President Tito Sotto to remove articles about his involvement in the Pepsi Paloma rape case of the 1980s. But there is something to be said about these Netizens seeing their "heroic" journalists as the only bastion of "resistance" to so-called "bullying". Daughter defends dad: Julia Abad testimonial highlights Ph #Kamaganak Inc culture

Julia Abad, chief of the Presidential Management Staff, and daughter of Budget Secretary Butch Abad recently posted on her Facebook page a statement in defence of her father. She writes that the public should not let allegations made by Janet Lim-Napoles "shake our belief that a reformist public service is possible." She goes on to state "I am Julia Abad, government employee, wife and mother. And I am proud to tell you, Butch Abad is my father." On the one hand, this sounds like a testament to the Abad family's commitment to a tradition of public service. Considering Ms Abad's mother, Henedina Razon, now serves as Representative of Batanes, not a few Filipinos will see this as confirmation that, for the Abads, POLITICS is a FAMILY BUSINESS.
