The karaoke coffin - another example of Pinoy "ingenuity" at work

Image
From Yahoo News: "Workers try out a coffin equipped with a karaoke system as they take a break at a casket manufacturing factory in Pampanga province, north of Manila October 30, 2012. Coffin manufacturer Robert Nogoy replaces the insides of a casket with a karaoke machine as a gimmick to surprise guests and lighten the mood of solemn funerals or Halloween parties. Check out this mini-rant Facebook rant from Carlos Celdran . Hay nako. What is wrong with Get Real Philippines? Self-loathing and KSP. Their editors need to get laid. He's obviously got something to say about us, but then won't go into specifics. Pinoy style paligoy-ligoy kung baga. Then somebody points out a possible specific GRP post he is referring to, and Celdran goes "Don't click. Don't give them the clicks they want." ha ha!

Mon Casiple sounds 'death knell' for the candidacies of all who oppose Noynoy Aquino!

Image
Funny how bozos like Mon Casiple still use popularity as measured by crony "survey" firm Social Weather Stations (SWS) to 'reaffirm' the 'mandate' of Philippine President Benigno Simeon "BS" Aquino III. SWS, if we recall , is part of BS Aquino's notorious Kamaganak Inc clique... The SWS was founded in 1986 by Dr. Mahar Mangahas, Prof. Felipe Miranda, then DPWH Sec. Jose P. de Jesus (under President Cory Aquino), Mercy Abad among others while Pulse Asia was founded in the 90s when Prof. Felipe Miranda separated from Mangahas and bolted SWS. It should be noted that Managhas is the cousin of the late presidential candidate Fernando Poe, Jr while some of the prominent members of the board and stockholders of the Pulse Asia are blood relatives of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, official candidate for the president of the Liberal Party. The corporate records of both firms that are available at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will also sh

More Post-APEC Wackiness from Gang Aquino

Image
Among the litany of gaffes and dubious “gains” presented by President BS Aquino as results of his attempt to distract everyone from a galactic-scale scandal attendance at the recent APEC forum was a minor point whose irony likely has flown over most of the heads of typical Pinoy news consumers: Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said the Philippines wanted to learn from the “best practices of Chile” in terms of taxing their mining industry. “Chile is the world’s largest exporter of copper and a few years ago they revised the scheme of taxation of their mining industry that is one that recognizes the volatility of mining prices. So this is one that we would like to study,” Purisima added. Just to be clear, this means that several weeks after the issuance of an Executive Order spelling out a “mining policy”, an E.O. that took about 18 months to produce and which has as one of its main objectives the improvement and rationalization of government revenue from mining

New SC Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno 'brings a lot of heavy baggage' - Doronila

Image
Amando Doronila writes ... It’s true that Filipinos expect a fair administration of justice in this changing of the guard from the a much-maligned corrupt regime to one that proclaims itself as the embodiment of unsullied rectitude in governance and as God’s gift to the Filipino people. But this exhortation to Sereno had a hypocritical ring because it was made by a scion of one of the wealthiest landlord families in the country; it was addressed to someone who, as associate justice of the high court appointed two years ago, wrote a dissenting opinion putting the value of just compensation for Hacienda Luisita, which is owned by the President’s kin, at 2006 valuation (P2.5 million per hectare), and not at the 1989 fair market value (P40,000 per hectare). Now highlighting the doubt cast on the future independence of the high court, he writes further: "These ostensibly amicable relations between the administration and the high court are deceptive and hardly mask the fact that the Pr

Excerpt from psychological assessment of new SC Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno

Image
New Supreme Court Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno reportedly rated a four in a scale from 1 to 5 (5 being the lowest) in a psychology test administered by the Judicial Bar Council (JBC). The following is an alleged excerpt from the report. “dramatic and emotional, she appears energetic and all smiles and agreeable, but with religious preoccupation in almost all significant aspects of her life. She projects a happy mood but has depressive markers too. There is a strong tendency to make decisions based on current mood thus, outcome is highly subjective and self-righteous.” [ Source Manila Times . Pro Reproductive Health Bill statement signed by De La Salle University faculty members #rhbill

Image
We, the undersigned Faculty Members of the De La Salle University, acting individually, and with reasoned conviction, cognizant of our role in society as champions of enlightenment and in pursuit of our mission to create a haven for critical Christian thinkers committed to serve society, particularly the poor, assert that: ? The right to life is a fundamental Christian tenet that finds full meaning when combined with the inherent rights of humans to a decent, safe, and productive existence as well as to an all-round development. Thus, beyond protecting the very important right of the unborn, it must extend to a recognition that a life that is weighed down by poverty, sickness, and social inequality–now compounded by environmental stresses–deprives humans of agency to transform themselves and the world for the common good. ? A key dimension of the democratic ideal at the core of our community and country is the promotion of pluralism and diversity. In a society marred by great imb

Lourdes - God's Chief Justice - Sereno is also self-described humble servant of God

Image
More quotes from the new "Chief Justice" reported on the Inquirer.net: Sereno, 52, who was leapfrogged over five senior associate justices to become head of the judiciary for the next 18 years or until the retirement age of 70, said it was God who appointed her and that it was probably time to give the leadership of the high court to “one of His humble servants.” Next thing we know, jousting will replace basketball as the national sport of the Philippines.

What makes a Noynoy fan

Image
A teacher asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Noynoy fans. Not really knowing what a Noynoy fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Juan.. The teacher asked Little Juan why he has decided to be different... Again. Little Juan said, "Because I'm not a Noynoy fan." The teacher asked, "Why aren't you a fan of Noynoy?" Juan said, "Because I'm a Nacionalista." The teacher asked him why he's a Nacionalista. Little Juan answered, "Well, my Mom's a Nacionalista and my Dad's a Nacionalista, so I'm a Nacionalista." Annoyed by this answer, the teacher asked, "If your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot, what would that make you?" With a big smile, Little Juan replied, "That would make me a Noynoy fan." More conflicting and anomalous accounts on the plane crash that killed Sec. Jesse Robredo #salamatjesse

Image
More questions are coming up as to what really happened in the minutes before the plane crash in which Secretary Jesse Robredo and two pilots died (and in which Robredo's aide Jun Abrazado survived). The Inquirer reported that Abrazado "embraced the secretary as they braced for impact but Abrazado lost consciousness when he hit his head on the back of the seat in front of him as they hit water". Does someone who loses consciousness as a result of a blow to the head remember the specific cause of his loss of consciousness? According to an article published by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), people who suffer such a trauma or concussion "often cannot remember what happened immediately before or after the injury, and they may act confused." Furthermore, "a concussion can affect memory, judgment, reflexes, speech, balance and muscle coordination." According to the Inquirer report, this was what supposedly happened as the pla

Bayan Muna Representative Teddy CasiƱo's hypocritical extension of condolence to Jesse Robredo #salamatjesse #epalwatch

Image
Have I said enough already about the duplicity commies are famous for? Perhaps not yet. A press release issued by MalacaƱang today includes this statement from one of them: Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Teddy Casino said he sends his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Secretary Robredo. “Secretary Jesse was an outstanding local chief executive and a very competent Department Secretary. He was one of the few Cabinet members who we truly respected and appreciated. We were witness to his compassion for the informal settlers whose violent demolitions we both tried to stop. His death is a big loss to the cause of good governance,” he said. Funny that, considering some time ago, CasiƱo's politburo was reportedly calling for Robredo's head to be served on a platter ... Jesse Robredo sa mga kritiko na isantabi muna ang panawagang magbitiw ito sa puwesto habang hindi pa natatapos ang imbestigasyon ng Incident Investigation and Review Committee (II

Sotto the Pimp

Image
Vicente “Tito” Sotto is no stranger to exploiting the ignorance of the common man. After all, his entire career from showbiz to politics has been nothing more than pimping “bread and circus”—just like Willie Revillame in Wowowee or whatever its latest version is on TV. By the way, I really enjoy watching the dancing girls around Willie for they indeed appeal to my basest instincts. The only difference is, Sotto has successfully pimped himself to the Senate; whereas, Willie has the decency to remain where he rightfully belongs. As if to justify his political existence at an institution that is only perverted by his presence, Sotto pimps himself anew by pandering to the Almighty Catholic Church with an emotional performance, revealing “that he had an offspring who died due to complications which he believes arose from his wife, the actress Helen Gamboa-Sotto, having used birth control pills.” He went on to relate that it would have been the 37th death anniversary of his son. Of course,

Aftermath of the habagat: triumphalist memes

Image
Yes, but is it idiot-proof and idiocy-proof? Is it negligence-proof and mediocrity-proof?  Apparently not! I would think twice before brandishing such triumphalist slogans all over again.  The bottom line remains: We continue to wallow in our mediocrity and inability to change yet brandish this as "resilience".   This reminds me of a line from a classic song: "Oh when will they ever learn? Oh when will they ever learn?..."

Contraception leads to corruption - or so the Catholic Church claims.

Image
From a Facebook page:  " The Catholic Church in its rally yesterday claimed that contraception leads to corruption. I tried to see a statistical basis for this assertion and gathered a few random countries' contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR, in percent) and corruption perception (rankings). It turns out that the Philippines, with the lowest CPR is the most corrupt, and countries with high CPRs (the U.S., Turkey, South Korea, Australia) were the least corrupt. What this means to me is that contraception is associated with the dissipation of corruption, contrary to what the Catholic clergy says." I disagree with the statement that contraception and corruption are inversely correlated, i.e., more contraception leads to less corruption.  At the very least, though, it shows that a correlation, much less causality, between contraception and corruption has not been established.   So much for that moronic argument of the Catholic Church.   They've got nothin

Two types of ethically invalid land titles from The Ethics of Liberty

Image
There are two types of ethically invalid land titles: "feudalism," in which there is continuing aggression by titleholders of land against peasants engaged in transforming the soil; and land-engrossing, where arbitrary claims to virgin land are used to keep first-transformers out of that land. We may call both these aggressions "land monopoly" -- not in the sense that some one person or group owns all the land in society, but in the sense that arbitrary privileges to land ownership are asserted in both cases. According to Conrado de Quiros Noynoy Aquino is 'the best speaker among all the postwar presidents' HA HA!

Image
Check out Conrado de Quiros's latest Inquirer.net column : P-Noy has just cemented his position as the best speaker among all the postwar presidents. Including Magsaysay, including Marcos, including Erap. He doesn’t go for bombast, he goes for heart-to-heart. And with it manages to hold the attention of an audience for a long period of time. Last Monday’s Sona was as long as it got—I myself felt it was too long. But I didn’t see anyone, including stalwarts of the opposition, yawning his mouth off. Maybe they were looking for things to criticize, as P-Noy himself suggested they were wired to do. But they were listening. That is no small feat. Any comment from Senator Bongbong Marcos?

Joey de Leon and Edu Manzano crack jokes about Colorado Batman massacre on Philippine television

Image
Ed Sicam writing for Yahoo! News: Sunday noon, I got sick to my stomach when Joey de Leon and Edu Manzano, hosts of TV 5's "Game and Go," cracked jokes related to the tragedy in a newscast spoof. Joey said certain individuals were asking the government to legalize pirated DVDs because it's safer to watch movies at home. Edu countered with a crack about a police officer who rushed to the scene and asked a bystander, "Anong kaguluhan ang nangyayari sa loob ng sinehan?" His reply, "Walo po tsip, may shooting lang." There were more corny jokes punctuated by scantily clad dancers gyrating onstage. The jokes were really in bad taste and demonstrated how low the people behind the noontime show will go to get cheap laughs. While people in the U.S. and elsewhere were grieving with the affected moviegoers and their families, "Game and Go" chose to trivialize the tragic event. Full article on Yahoo! OMG .

'President Aquino will not say anything that is not true' - Lacierda

Indeed, Filipinos need to be assured through official MalacaƱang statements that their President will always tell the truth... “The President ordered that all statistics, facts and figures should be vetted. It’s very clear that President Aquino will not say anything that is not true,” Lacierda said. In the Philippines, that which goes without saying has to be said nonetheless.

Will anybody still believe what Noynoy Aquino says at his SONA?
