Philippine senators believe Supreme Court took their power to remove impeachable officials, launches yet another pointless "probe"

The question is, in aid of what legislation is this most recent of probes about this time? This is a question that needs to be directed to 14 Philippine senators who launched another one of those infamously pointless Senate "probes" they use for the media mileage they crave every now and then.

Nonetheless, the Philippine Star reports...

The 14 senators – Francis Pangilinan, Francis Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV, Sonny Angara, Leila de Lima, Grace Poe, Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, Sherwin Gatchalian, Risa Hontiveros, Joel Villanueva, Loren Legarda, Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto and former Senate president Aquilino Pimentel III – were one in their position that the Senate has the exclusive power under the Constitution to remove an impeachable official, such as the Chief Justice, accused of wrongdoing through an impeachment trial.

It seems, however, that no legislative agenda is at stake here. According to the Star report, this "probe" is really all about how "the high court effectively took away [the] power of the Senate" to remove people from office.

But of course, most Filipinos already knew that.
