Fact check report by @VERAfiles reveals MALICIOUS reporting vs Duterte by @CMFR, @NUJP, and @PCIJdotOrg on #WorldPressFreedomDay!

We need to give credit where credit is due. Vera Files gas so far proven that it is doing fact checks the right way. Its reports have so far been well-constructed, comprehensive, and systematic in the way assertions made on the bases of the information that are the subjects of its reports are made.

Their latest Fact Check report Media groups err on figures on media killings; Roque claim on press freedom wrong called out how, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, media watchdogs Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) made assertions on the basis of dubious analysis of data on media personnel killings over several Philippine presidencies.

Most important of all is this snippet in the report that supports long-held views that so-called "media watchdogs" are deliberately slanting -- even maliciously modifying -- data to suit partisan agendas...

In their May 3 report, the media groups tallied only work-related killings under all administrations except for Duterte, whose record also included nonwork-related killings and inconclusive cases.

The above demonstrates how these media watchdogs evidently padded the body count under Duterte's watch while taking liberties to omit cases for other administrations. It makes it more imperative that the work of the PCIJ, CMFR, and the NUJP be regarded with an increasingly sharper eye and not be given license to act like they are the gods of Philippine journalism.

Kudos to VERA Files for the quality of this and previous Fact Check reports so far published!
