The Ateneo supports the 25% shading standard just because Leni Robredo is appealing for it

It is common knowledge that the Ateneo, its faculty, and its student body collectively support the position that a 25% shading threshold be applied as criteria for the vote recount overseen by the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET). The PET recount is being done to settle a dispute lodged by vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos against the claim to the vice presidency of fellow candidate Leni Robredo.

The Ateneo has been on Robredo's side since the campaign. As such, its taking such a position, which is, not surprisingly, exactly the same position Robredo's camp takes on the issue, is necessarily biased and not based on any other argument. For the Ateneo, the argument is idiotically straightforward: Leni Robredo wants the 25% shading criterion applied to the recount, so "we Ateneans" are behind it.

Dumb, right? And to think parents of students of the Ateneo pay astronomical fees to "educate" their kids there. The evidence shows that Ateneans do not go to the Ateneo to learn how to think. They go there to take the elitist position on most issues of national consequence. That's that "Jesuit education" people pay dearly for at work.

Jose Rizal never had Tagalog in mind when he encouraged us to love our own language

Posted by a certain Chloe Santiago on the Facebook GRP Community Group : Jose Rizal died in 1896 and Tagalog was declared the official language of the Philippine only in 1937. This can only mean that Rizal wasn't really talking about Tagalog when he made this statement: "He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish." Indeed. Who made the arbitrary directive to make the Tagalog dialect the "National Language" to begin with? Furthermore, why have a "National Language" when Filipinos are already proficient in the global lingua franca of commerce and scientific achievement?

NAIA GM Jose Angel Honrado makes fool of himself in Senate hearing!

NAKAKAHIYA I watched Bodet Honrado's performance before the Senate. It's clear that the job of NAIA Gen Manager is too big for him. He is out of place there and should be yanked out before more damage is done to passengers, airlines, tourism, the economy and the country's reputation.  The lesson here is quite basic. Place people in key positions whose qualifications, experience and track record fit the job.
