Senators and House Reps who plan to challenge the Supreme Court ouster of Sereno should think twice

There are calls from various militant personalities goading Congress to assert its right to have its shot at impeaching the now never-had-been-chief-justice Lourdes Sereno. Members of Congress should think twice.

If Congress accede to these ludicrous requests, they will be raising the the old demons of 2012 when a kangarooo "impeachment court" of so-called "senator judges" impeached then Chief Justice Renato Corona. This has gone down in history as a blight on the honour of Philippine Congress given how much of this circus was engineered by no less than then Philippine President Benigno Simeon "BS" Aquino III himself who got the ball rolling by steamrolling a sloppily-written impeachment complaint through a complicit House of Representatives.

The impeachment initiative was reportedly an exercise "to appease an angry President Benigno Aquino III"...

Belmonte and another Liberal Party stalwart, Cavite Representative Joseph E.A. Abaya, revealed that a “furious” President Aquino wanted a “fast” impeachment against Corona after he and seven other Arroyo appointees had issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) to block the travel ban against Arroyo.

Congress still needs to put this appalling travesty behind it. Challenging the Supreme Court ruling to void Sereno's appointment on the behest of the interest groups again will only seal its reputation as a den of spineless crooks that routinely assumes the position whenever the price is right.
