PNP, Friend or Foe?

Hoodlums in uniform is now an understatement when we talked about law enforcers doing crimes. It is more like a state sponsored terrorists.

Imagine, the state trains, issues weapons and pays these cops to protect and maintain peace and order, but do the opposite. Bad cops do criminal activities. Name it, rob, kidnap, carjack, extort, torture, rape, sell drugs, and murder. And worse, they act as a team. An organized unit aim to harm helpless victims- rich or poor, local or foreigner. Money-hungry policemen inflicting pain in the society.

Are we still safe in our homes, workplaces and streets? How do we know if cops are good or bad?

This is a moral crisis. Would you call a cop for help if another cop robs you? Or worse, the whole police station is involved. Where do we go then?

    How do you police the police? Cops defend each other no matter what.

    Even lawyers avoid cases that involve criminal officers. PAO lawyers have the misfortune of having to work with police everyday. And a lot of times, PAO laywers can't afford to be idealistic about the Philippine justice system. The law may not always be there to protect the real victims.

    Politicians who steal our tax money. Police who kidnap and kill us. This country is hopeless.

The oh-so-noble journalists are at it again, this time, with Duterte’s Hitler comment. I am no Duterte fanatic. I criticize him more scathingly than anyone when his mouth is out of line. But this time, Duterte really didn’t say anything wrong. The real culprits behind the fuss over his Hitler comment are Karen Lema and Manuel Mogato, two Filipino reporters of the Reuters news agency, who wrote this article: “ Philippines’ Duterte likens himself to Hitler, wants to kill millions of drug addicts ”. Lema and Mogato are Filipinos. There’s no way they could have misunderstood what Duterte really meant in his speech. I watched the video and this is what the President said: “Hitler massacred 3 million Jews. There are 3 million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them. At least, if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have ….. my victims, all criminals, to finish a problem of my country, and save the next generation.” (See for yourself here . Warning: this will REALLY make your blood boil. If you have vertigo, sit down and take a deep breath before watching. You know what’s really sickening about this video? It’s not even the lies and exaggerations that Robredo is saying about what’s going on in the Philippines and how Pinoys feel about it (as if she’s in any position to speak for the Filipino people, who mostly hate her guts). It’s the hollowness and emptiness of the way she mechanically reads from a script that obviously someone else wrote. She’s making huge claims about thousands of people being summarily killed by police, but her eyes and voice are absolutely empty of emotion or conviction. NAIA GM Jose Angel Honrado makes fool of himself in Senate hearing!

NAKAKAHIYA I watched Bodet Honrado's performance before the Senate. It's clear that the job of NAIA Gen Manager is too big for him. He is out of place there and should be yanked out before more damage is done to passengers, airlines, tourism, the economy and the country's reputation.  The lesson here is quite basic. Place people in key positions whose qualifications, experience and track record fit the job.
