Wikileaks 'expose' of the dysfunction of Philippine Police fails the 'So What?' test

I fail to see anything about the information contained in the Wikileaks expose on the "mess" that is the Philippine National Police that I'd consider even remotely groundbreaking. Perhaps only two things make it newsworthy: (1) its source is American in origin, and (2) the detail contained in it is fit for a people renowned for their focus on people and events rather than on ideas.

So basically what makes this Wikileaks indictment of the PNP interesting in the star-struck eyes of Filipinos is the fact that it lays out the tabloidesque who's who and the what's what surrounding the dysfunctional of a state service the essence of which most of us have already known of for the last several decades.

Is there really any point in all that detail considering that the key and real point of it all -- the fact of the ineptitude of the PNP -- is a pointed truth that Filipinos are already unable to deal with even as it stares us all in our faces?

The oh-so-noble journalists are at it again, this time, with Duterte’s Hitler comment. I am no Duterte fanatic. I criticize him more scathingly than anyone when his mouth is out of line. But this time, Duterte really didn’t say anything wrong. The real culprits behind the fuss over his Hitler comment are Karen Lema and Manuel Mogato, two Filipino reporters of the Reuters news agency, who wrote this article: “ Philippines’ Duterte likens himself to Hitler, wants to kill millions of drug addicts ”. Lema and Mogato are Filipinos. There’s no way they could have misunderstood what Duterte really meant in his speech. I watched the video and this is what the President said: “Hitler massacred 3 million Jews. There are 3 million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them. At least, if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have ….. my victims, all criminals, to finish a problem of my country, and save the next generation.” (See for yourself here . It’s not even the lies and exaggerations that Robredo is saying about what’s going on in the Philippines and how Pinoys feel about it (as if she’s in any position to speak for the Filipino people, who mostly hate her guts). An open letter to CNN on their reporting on the #YolandaPH disaster in the Philippines

NAIA GM Jose Angel Honrado makes fool of himself in Senate hearing!

NAKAKAHIYA I watched Bodet Honrado's performance before the Senate. It's clear that the job of NAIA Gen Manager is too big for him. He is out of place there and should be yanked out before more damage is done to passengers, airlines, tourism, the economy and the country's reputation.  The lesson here is quite basic. Place people in key positions whose qualifications, experience and track record fit the job.
