Only rich Filipinos have a problem with the Martial Law years

I'm part of the Millenial generation. I grew up actually hating the entire Marcos family precisely because of what was taught in elementary and high school. I looked up to Ninoy as a hero/martyr.

Until I heard many first hand experiences from people who were actually alive during the Martial Law era – my college professors, my friends' parents, literally all of my co-workers so far who are in their 40s – 60s, farmers, taxi drivers, etc. They would all rather go back to the time of Marcos Sr's administration.

The only people I hear crying like a bitch about Marcos Sr's "atrocities" are the rich, the powerful, and the elite because apparently things during the Marcos era didn't go their way. Unlike now where they can just pay their way to get whatever they want and no one ever tells them "no." I rarely ever see anyone from the middle class and below complain about Martial Law.

So the problem isn't really our education system and how schools teach kids about Martial Law. The yellow party's problem is that they're running of out curtains to hide their lies and incompetence.

    1. Until now nangyayari pa rin yan. Puro kayo kasiraan ng Martial Law. Mas malala pa nga ang nangyari after Edsa Revolution.

    2. @Ryan - yea, that's probably HALF of Marcos's regime. So why don't we become bitter and angry over all the killings and hate Marcos for it? By the way, Marcos wasn't the only one who did Martial Law. Enrile and Ramos, who anti-Marcos claim as heros, were leaders of Martial Law. But anyways, life isn't about filling your soul with hatred and bitterness. Life sucks....but gotta move forward. If you don't want to move forward....then.....ok for you.

    3. I'm not saying I support the killings or the torture but I feel the Aquinos and the media over sensationalized and over emphasized Marcos as a horrible villain in history. History has its crappy parts....its sad when it gets revised to make someone look worse then they really were when others were involved as well. Marcos was no hero....but I don't believe he was happy with people getting tortured or dying. He did the best he could but I believe his "cronies" were a bit....twisted.

    4. hogwash. communism had a higher atrocity count. the victims just can't make noise because the threat is still there til now.

anti-martial law people would pretend as if the communist threat wasn't real then. millions of filipinos would have been led to their deaths if it weren't for M/L.

Martial law saved lives and this country.

  5. Consider also that the rich led sheltered lives during M/L. Notice how they continue to dismiss the communist threat then as if it were all myth, and how they attribute the failure of the economy to M/L. They were never immersed enough in the countryside to know the real extent of the communist movement then. They've never associated with the poor rural folk that were such easy targets for communist indoctrination and recruitment. They've never had the experience of having their incomes and profits slashed to pay "taxes" at the pointing end of gun, or have their cars hijacked by sparrows for a hit mission or extortion campaign.

Communism is a killer. M/l, in fact, saved lives and this country. -JD
