Journalist @iamKarenDavila barks up the wrong tree defending Carlos Celdran's "Damaso" stunt

Revered Filipino "journalist" Karen Davila weighed in on the recent Supreme Court decision to uphold the conviction of Carlos Celdran who was found guilty of “offending the religious feelings”...

To the Supreme Court: How can @carlosceldran be penalized for Offending Religious Feelings when no less than the President has cursed the church?

Celdran, however was charged for his offense, which, in due course through due process, led to his conviction. Furthermore, whilst Duterte made a statement about "God" in general, Celdran specifically targeted a religious occasion with the aim of disrupting it.

Finally, the Supreme Court can only rule on something when charges are filed. So Davila is directing her lament at the wrong institution. She should, instead, direct it at the parties she presumes were "offended" by President Rodrigo Duterte's remarks.

And those are the facts of the matter.

How the men and women of the Duterte govt implemented FOI against all odds

As a government official serving the Duterte administration, I'd like to share my 5 month work experience, so that you guys get a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes. After the President signed the EO on FOI, he instructed the PCOO to oversee implementation.  There was no budget for FOI in the 2016 GAA. (None also for 2017 because the previous admin prepared next year's budget) There was also no personnel whatsoever for a project monitoring office.  And we were given only 120 days to implement the program. Let me repeat. No money. No people. And very little time. But we did it. Because the president told us to do so. We scraped for funds here and there. We asked for technical assistance from other agencies like DICT and DBM. We convinced people to volunteer for FOI. And we worked hard, day in, day out. How can you have a balanced discussion on #FactsMatterPH in the Philippines when you convene such an inbred bunch of "resource persons" in an uppity university campus and have the event streamed by suspect corporate media organisations?? Apparently anything is possible when you are as thick as the organisers of the the so-called conference on "Democracy and Disinformation (Why 'fake news' and other forms of disinformation threaten our freedoms and how to fight back)". The conference will be held Monday and Tuesday this week at the chi-chi Ateneo de Manila campus in Makati City. As can be seen in the poster above, the attendee list consists of familiar names -- names associated with the same clique of media oligarchs, discredited "joirnalists", and liberal activists allied with the Liberal Party led by the Old Guard of "influencers" loyal to the Aquino-Cojuangco feudal clan that lorded over the Philippines from their ivory tower

Jeepneys are a persistent roadblock to Philippine progress!

The Jeepney is itself is a symbol of failure to solve a problem in its history. First, it was used as a stopgap measure because of the destruction of the tranvia during World War 2. Leftover Willys MBs (the original Jeep) were taken by Filipinos (wonder if that reflects the Filipino desire to live on pillages) to be converted into temporary transport until a replacement for the tranvia was made. But that replacement never came, and jeepneys stayed. What made jeepneys more dangerous was the boundary system, that business model that makes drivers race dangerously and cut off competition in trying to “make agaw ” passengers. Well, that’s another symbol from this, the “ agawan ” mentality of Filipinos. Filipino may continue to celebrate jeepneys as a symbol of Filipino “ingenuity,” but it could also be seen as a symbol of both keeping stopgaps instead of thinking of permanent solutions and dependence on the Americans.
