Voltaire and the Filipino

Voltaire walked into a bar, coming across a Filipino protester who openly talked about the evils of a certain recording artist, and his holy efforts to convince everybody to boycott her concert, even convincing the government to keep her out of the country.

Voltaire, forever a champion of freedom, decided to confront the Filipino, citing one of his most famous words.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

To which the Filipino replied, "I do not agree with what you say, so I will deprive you to the death of your right to say it."

And Jesus wept.

Not since Marcos have we as a people been so polarized. As far as our hearts and minds are concerned it's like we're in the edge of a civil war. We are forced to take a hard look at ourselves and what we value. Because of this, we are fighting friends in coffee houses, on the telephone, and on Facebook. We are a people whose lives have been upended. We don't know what to do to get things done right and right away. We lash out. Mocha Uson a better role model for women than her "decent" critics

Mocha Uson has struck a chord with the people. She did not grow up sheltered like some of these decent people. In 2002, she lost her father, a judge to an [politically motivated?] ambush killing. She was probably 20 at the time. She has had to make a living and a name for herself as best she could. Any resentment she feels, she has kept to herself, she does not bring up the murder every now and then as though she should be given sympathy (not like some personalities who like to bring up the necro card). So she became a sexy dancer? So what? Apparently, she was able to turn her life around and find a more honorable calling. She may not have had the education some people have, but people change, people learn, and education is a process that does not end once one leaves university. Pwede-na-yan mentality & #puso will not uplift quality of #Philippines #basketball

To Gilas fans I respect very much your support and enthusiasm on the win and efforts of Gilas. But "Pwede na yan attitude" (this will do) is a clear sign of FILIPINO MEDIOCRITY – being happy & contented with a none bearing win instead of winning all 4. It also makes Filipinos stupid/dumb because there is really Nothing to be proud of – win or loose Senegal not Gilas will qualify in the next round of FIBA. "Pwede na yan!
