Voltaire and the Filipino

Voltaire walked into a bar, coming across a Filipino protester who openly talked about the evils of a certain recording artist, and his holy efforts to convince everybody to boycott her concert, even convincing the government to keep her out of the country.

Voltaire, forever a champion of freedom, decided to confront the Filipino, citing one of his most famous words.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

To which the Filipino replied, "I do not agree with what you say, so I will deprive you to the death of your right to say it."

And Jesus wept.

I planned to vote for him before because of his no-nonsense approach and actions against crime and criminals in general, so he's the last person I'd expect to make a joke about thinking of committing a crime as barbaric and heinous as rape especially given the fact that he had long years of first hand experience seeing dead bodies of victims of such an act… I've seen the whole video of that speech and listened to the backstory. He had himself get taken hostage at knifepoint risking his life and limb, and he himself lead the offensive using his own Uzi firearm to eliminate the bad guys. Yes, I acknowledge that these are indeed heroic acts on his part worthy of recognition, but I still struggle to find a good explanation for that rape joke. Filipinos "nice" but lacking in common sense -- IT business manager

As someone whom invested heavily in the Philippines managing an IT company, I view your assumptions as narrow minded. I’ve given hundreds of Pinoys IQ tests as part of the selection process, the vast majority of these IT graduates ( the cream of the crap ) performed dismally. After two years operating we decided to close up and retain Singaporean Chinese staff and Brazilians. One staff member does the work of approximately 10 Pinoys. The biggest issue was a sheer lack of common sense, they can do black and white but seldom grey. Higher order thinking skills and abstract reasoning skills seemed to me missing, as they would perhaps with someone diagnosed with mild Asperger syndrome. How do we solve the #Philippines' #squatter problem once and for all?? #ASEAN

I would like to ask a question to anyone from this forum, what would be your solution to the squatter crisis? We simply can't eradicate them for that would be violative of established norms and legal principles. So the only viable solution is to move these people somewhere, now the question is where do we move these people and how? Indeed I concede that public funds are scarce and must be wisely utilized, so if we were to make a massive relocation program it would be too burdensome to the taxpayers. If one were to say that, "it is not the government's responsibility," then I would humbly disagree, under the doctrine parens patriae, the government is the guardian of the people, thus, government must do what it can to uplift the conditions of these people, in addition, government has the means, connections, and power to effectuate a viable and sustainable solution to this problem.
