Instead of we coming down to the masses, why can't they come UP to us?

President Noynoy Aquino's use of Tagalog supposedly to better reach the "people" is often cited as a virtue. But then isn't the aspiration of most Filipinos to get themselves equipped with the skills to further their careers and (for even many more) to land that lucrative job abroad? They cannot do all of that speaking in Tagalog. To do all those they will have to be good at speaking in English. We send the wrong messages by pandering to the comfort zones of the masses. It's time the masses develop an ethic of coming out of their comfort zones and COMPETE.

    Sa totoo lang, Tagalog doesn't represent the PH as a whole, Benign0.

    Based on what I have observed these days, more and more Filipinos begin to understand English better than Tagalog.

    Sa title pa lang, you have just sent the right message to the masses. I mean, isn't it a good idea to, instead of bowing down to their standards, make them work hard to be like us?

    Indeed, the nature of the way Pinoys approach their aspirations should be re-framed so that the ethic that fuels it is more about personal accountability and less about access to opportunities created by others.

Victims of drug-crazed addicts don't get 'trending' hashtags like #JusticeForKian

For the past few days I was doing research on a few things like I said. A new FB friend sent me a message telling me about a Dad in Dumaguete who lost his only daughter to a drug crazed addict who used 7 knives to stab her and a friend in Siquijor last April. I did the research, read up on everything and his recent "upheavals". I need not tell you all that I have no words to fully express how deeply this affects me because I am a single mom with a daughter too. His only daughter was even 3 - 4 months pregnant when she and her friend was mercilessly stabbed to death so many times by a drug addict. Nino Pinero is a professor in Siliman University. He is a coach. Given what I have read about this gentleman, he is a very compassionate man, a loving father and being a coach to youngsters - deeply loved by his students. And I would like to give him his privacy in as much as I can. 100% respect for this man. His recent "upheavals" came with the pronouncements

Filipinos don't know the meaning of "thoughtless extravagance" or ostentatious spending. This is a symptom of that very Filipino fiesta mentality. To the Filipino mind it is ok to spend even if it means ruining your bank account in order to please your friends. Jose Rizal never had Tagalog in mind when he encouraged us to love our own language

Posted by a certain Chloe Santiago on the Facebook GRP Community Group : Jose Rizal died in 1896 and Tagalog was declared the official language of the Philippine only in 1937. This can only mean that Rizal wasn't really talking about Tagalog when he made this statement: "He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish." Indeed. Who made the arbitrary directive to make the Tagalog dialect the "National Language" to begin with? Furthermore, why have a "National Language" when Filipinos are already proficient in the global lingua franca of commerce and scientific achievement?
