0ne can't help but wonder what the definition of a "Netizen" is. In the Rappler article Netizens slam Sherwin Gatchalian over 'Ulol, Gago' tweets, the following examples are what are considered to be "Netizens' reactions"...


So if it walks like a troll, quacks like a troll, but tweets like a Yellowtard, then it must be a "Netizen". That's the logic Rappler seemingly applies to determining what sort of social media user you are.

Indeed, in another Rappler universe, there are, of course users who are regarded as "trolls". They are the users who are supporters of current Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and have, according to Ressa, "weaponised" the Internet.

Selective labelling. Rappler and its CEO are such class acts.

Leni Robredo misdeclared MERALCO stocks possibly worth 6 million pesos!

Leni Robredo admitted to Mike Enriquez during a radio interview on May 9 that she owned stocks at Meralco. She also admitted that such had a value of 95k pesos in 1995. Robredo did not declare the value of these stocks, and while she declared owning stocks, the value of such is not listed in her SALN as an asset. Now after doing some crowd-sourcing and math, here is what I found out. I could not get the share prices of Meralco stocks in 1995. What I got thanks to Carlos A Jr Cortes is the value in 2000 which is 4 pesos per share. Using this, and this is even conservative since the price in 1995 must have been lower than 4 pesos, then Robredo owned at least 23,750 shares of stocks (95k divided by 4). The current share price of Meralco is 272 pesos per share. If we use this value, then Robredo has at least 6.46 milion pesos (at least 23,750 shares multiplied by 272 pesos per share) of assets which she failed to declare in her SALN. The sound of a #Tagalog convo: 'like chickens and hens cackling in unison'

While I'm not sure the language should totally go the way Latin did, one can't deny the limited use of Tagalog. As it is now, a sentence can't be done without two or three borrowed words in English which makes it redundant in academia. Somehow you gotta address the technical jargon but there really is no equivalent to it in Tagalog so the English term just ends up jammed in between the local vernacular. Nevermind the fact that reading Tagalog online is cringey no matter who wrote it. Add the fact that it just doesn't sound pleasing to the ear. Normal conversation with Tagalog is like chickens and hens cackling in unison to the uninitiated. It's the peasants' language through and through. ------------ This is a GRP Featured Comment.
