The Philippines is too dependent to be truly independent

In order for the Philippines to be neutral, it must exhibit political, economical and military clout on its own. All of these it couldn’t even pretend it has even when granted its “Independence.”

Its location is vital for the US as a buffer towards encroaching China. That alone is enough for them whereas the Philippines is essentially enslaved to the Yanks because who else provides them with military tech? We don’t develop our own weapons, that’s for sure.

The history of the country also impedes the chances of true neutrality. Several decades under the “patronship” of superpowers and empires, the government is too inept to take care of its people and infrastructure. As soon as the ties get cut, the government will soon play beggar to whoever will give them handouts.

Outrage over Leni Robredo's fraudulent Vice Presidency prevails among ordinary Filipinos!

To those who say Leni Robredo is the legally recognized VP, please think about this — legally recognized by whom? By the yellow officials who installed her through illicit means? By the dwindling band of yellow fanatics who turned up at Luneta last weekend? Go out to the streets. Talk to the jeepney drivers, taxi drivers, vendors, commuters, etc. Talk to the real people expressing their disgust and disbelief in forums, facebook, etc. The outrage is everywhere, expressed several times a day, everyday, in the Philippines and among the OFWs. Robredo can be sworn in a thousand times by Drilon and Belmonte, declared "winner" a million times by Andres Bautista, "legalized" a billion times by Sereno, and congratulated a trillion times by the US and other ambassadors, but majority of the Filipino people STILL won't believe she's legit. Also, think about this: had Escudero or Cayetano been declared winner for VP, do you think there would be this kind of outrage? No...

Filipinos "nice" but lacking in common sense -- IT business manager

As someone whom invested heavily in the Philippines managing an IT company, I view your assumptions as narrow minded. I’ve given hundreds of Pinoys IQ tests as part of the selection process, the vast majority of these IT graduates ( the cream of the crap ) performed dismally. After two years operating we decided to close up and retain Singaporean Chinese staff and Brazilians. One staff member does the work of approximately 10 Pinoys. The biggest issue was a sheer lack of common sense, they can do black and white but seldom grey. Higher order thinking skills and abstract reasoning skills seemed to me missing, as they would perhaps with someone diagnosed with mild Asperger syndrome.
