Former Rodrigo Duterte supporter explains why he changed his mind after 'rape joke' video

I planned to vote for him before because of his no-nonsense approach and actions against crime and criminals in general, so he's the last person I'd expect to make a joke about thinking of committing a crime as barbaric and heinous as rape especially given the fact that he had long years of first hand experience seeing dead bodies of victims of such an act… I've seen the whole video of that speech and listened to the backstory. He had himself get taken hostage at knifepoint risking his life and limb, and he himself lead the offensive using his own Uzi firearm to eliminate the bad guys. Yes, I acknowledge that these are indeed heroic acts on his part worthy of recognition, but I still struggle to find a good explanation for that rape joke.

So I've watched the full video of his apology. He told the whole story again and said a lot of things but I didn't get the answer I was hoping for. What he said was he wasn't making a joke, and it was just gutter language uttered out of anger and frustration, and he grew up in a place where people talk that way. Well, I get all that except for the not making a joke bit which sounds like an outright lie to me. It's very clear based on his overall demeanor and the transcripts from the viral video that he was making a joke about it. They can spin it any way they want but it's all obvious on the record that he was making a joke.

An honest answer I could've lived with would've been, "I'm sorry for that joke. It was just my libido talking. I was thinking using my dick and in the process sounded like a dick. I have no excuse for this, I'm not perfect but I'm willing to do the dirty work to keep you all lazy assholes safe and clean." Something like that would've been somewhat okay instead of trying to justify it… He gave a half-assed apology in general and refused to apologize to a particular entity. He said he's sticking to his guns…

I was looking for a little bit of courage in admitting he was wrong and a little bit of humility as these are somewhat traits becoming of a good leader but he has neither…. So I think it's best if he should just stick to his literal guns and continue his work in Davao. It might not be a smart decision to look up to him as a leader after all, and I'm just realizing right now that I might just be one of the many pinoys desperate for change that got bedazzled by the rugged charm of the Duterte brand of justice. I was wrong.

The image stuck in my mind now is that SICK necrophilic joke coming not from a heroic crime buster but from the mouth of a dirty old man who took too much Viagra and have little morals. I'm voting for Sen. Santiago now.

    1. Exactly, from the very first sentence "planning" and not "intending" shows the insincerity.

  2. This is what we call 'nitpicking'. The suppose unnamed former Duterte supporter criticises by focusing on minute details, but in reality the purpose was to discredit Duterte. There are more nitpickings in the days to come. The opponents are becoming more desperate. Remember, it's just a few more days to go before election day.

    1. sigue ilabas nio lahat ng pangit na mga remarks at videos n Duterte, then it is up to the Filipino people. db? lay down your cards whether dirty or clean. ang lamang lang kasi n Duterte, his announcement of running for President is of short time, so walang masamang balits or parang na curtail ang mga masasamang balita. had he annouced it earlier, baka nag ipon na ng mga pang contra sa kanya. now time is running out. SO SMART HA? NAISIP BA YUN NG MGA KALABAN?

  3. Ang babaw mo naman. Anyway we already have enough votes to win the election. You are still welcome though if you changed your mind. Hindi kami nang personal ng tao. We respect your opinion and we expect you do the same. But for your info this guy exchange his life for the safety of a 3 month old child and the auntie who was abducted. Did you know that? Action speak louder than voice if you wanna see it that way. Also for your info he is not desperate to be President unlike the others. He is being callled to serve the masses not the few rich. He is being push to run and not insisting himself to run. And He is not a Hypocrite. He is true and real.

  6. This person is just sharing their opinion, they are not telling you to not vote for duterte, you can do as you please, as this person can. Stop being so butthurt, stop being extreme fanboys and respect a person's opinion and decision. Also there are millions of people living in this country, some are rape victims or people close to them, who are traumatized by the putrid act that has been done unto the victim. rape jokes are no laughing matter, it triggers people and promotes rape culture to feeble minds following duterte, which i can say are a lot.

  16. When one chooses a leader, consciously or subconsciously, one chooses a leader who reflects one's priorities and preferences and one's principles, morals, and beliefs. Human nature always seeks to affirm itself. Human spirit, on the other hand, seeks to rise above itself for the common good. Sad that due to the physicality of life, nature overshadows spirit most of the time.
