Sensible solution to traffic congestion in Manila: City-run mass transit

Image
In all major cities around the world, 'people-movement' within the city is limited to government-operated mass transit systems. From New York City, Paris and Barcelona to Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong, and others… whose populations vary from 5 millions to 18 millions…city-owned/operated buses, trains, trams and sub-ways, are the only ways to move people to their destinations, safely and efficiently. To these cities' governments, the movement of their citizens is much too important to just leave to private business whose sole motive is profit. Manila, however.. like Karachi and Dacca.. among other 'backward-looking' mega-cities.. seems to be an exception. So.. it now deals with the daily 'arterial blockage' that causes paralysis in the streets, and the intermittent and costly interruptions to trade, commerce and to wage-earners' commutes that the country can ill afford. As an 'aside' to this commentary, it must be said that the DOTC and '

Muslims believe theirs is the one true religion

Image
Let's not speculate. Let's deal with fact. Muslims, wherever they are worldwide, are adherents of a monolithic, inflexible and unrelenting religion… Islam. All of them strictly follow the tenets and strictures of the Quran, as well as the Sunnah and the Hadiths which were handed down by their prophet Muhammad. The Muslim you may encounter in trouble spots like Iraq, Palestine, Nigeria or Syria, are of the same fabric… cut from the same bolt of cloth… as the fractious Muslim in Mindanao, Sulu and Basilan.. and Metro-Manila. All of them are of the same mindset, that is, that theirs is the one true religion and that anybody who says otherwise is an unbeliever.. an infidel, who must either convert or, be taxed heavily, or, be put to death. The Mozarabes.. Spaniards who did not convert to Islam, in the 8th through the 15th century, Moorish Spain.. paid dearly to live in their own country during that period. All these are data gleaned from today's news and from books like '

#ParisAttack: Determined #France to lead a war which will be pitiless

Image
"To all those who have seen these awful things, I want to say we are going to lead a war which will be pitiless. Because when terrorists are capable of committing such atrocities they must be certain that they are facing a determined France, a united France, a France that is together and does not let itself be moved, even if today we express infinite sorrow." - Francois Hollande, President of France

#Paris under possible terrorist attack!

Image
Shootings and a developing hostage situation have been reported in Paris, France. About 60 people are reportedly being held in a Bataclan concert hall in central Paris after shots were fired during the concert of a California rock group called Eagles of Death Metal. Shootings were also reported at Le Cambodge restaurant and a bar called Le Carillon both in the 10th arrondissement. Reports of an explosion at Stade de France, where the French soccer team was playing Germany are also circulating. French media have indicated a strong possibility that a suicide bomber was involved. This follows confirmation released last Friday by the US that it was reasonably certain that Mohammed Emwazi a.k.a. 'Jihadi John' was killed in a US-British missile strike last week. Emwazi is regarded as 'the face of ISIS' having made a name for himself appearing in the group's brutally graphic execution videos.

NAIA GM Jose Angel Honrado makes fool of himself in Senate hearing!

Image
NAKAKAHIYA I watched Bodet Honrado's performance before the Senate. It's clear that the job of NAIA Gen Manager is too big for him. He is out of place there and should be yanked out before more damage is done to passengers, airlines, tourism, the economy and the country's reputation.  The lesson here is quite basic. Place people in key positions whose qualifications, experience and track record fit the job. But when people who don't know any better elect the appointing authority, who like them, doesn't know any better, chances are the appointees won't know any better either. ----------------- Posted by Rafael Alunan III on Facebook... https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10205289708062924&id=1254072299&set=a.1178983755458.2026101.1254072299&source=57

#Philippines traditional media to blame for lack of awareness on Lumads plight

Image
Apparently, there's not much awareness on the plight of the Lumads. Heneral Luna and AlDub became a hit because the Philippine media, especially the social media, make it a trend. With the case of Heneral Luna, there's a group of big and scholastic people in our Philippine media who made a call to promote the film. The plight of the Lumads should be headlining the local news but it's not. The fact that the most popular TV network treat it like the usual hit and run or homicide incident because the Philippine military was involved and the President himself gave the go signal for Oplan Bayanihan same as in the Mamasapano "mission" being the Chief of State kept the majority of Filipinos, who are relying on our Philippine media for news, in the dark about the plight of the Lumads. SAF44's case got highlighted because there's much indignation in the higher stratum of our society. See, if people like the Senate committee, PNP heads made a clamor out of it, i

#Philippines society: a premeditated sociopathic trap

Image
You have to admit the common Filipino is one very bizarre creature and as a westerner you will never truly understand them. You see the reason is simply because a westerners mindset is not prehistorically narcissistically hard-wired (thankfully otherwise we would ALSO be third world monkeys). They can appear so calm, friendly and innocent and it is so easy to fall into their premeditated sociopathic trap which they have instinctively woven. You have to admit it is both beautiful and grotesque at the same time to watch it in action. Forget the chameleon, they are the true masters of disguise in this vast animal kingdom! Bravo Pinoys you must be truly proud (as only Third World Pinoys with absolutely nothing can be) of your desperate attempts to get out of the disturbing culture that you are solely responsible for, just please leave your culture at home where it belongs and try to assimilate with those higher up on the food chain when you do eventually emigrate to greener pastures

#Philippines in a wretched position due to its unintelligent voters!

Image
"I go on this great republican principle, that the people will have virtue and intelligence to select men of virtue and wisdom. Is there no virtue among us? If there be not, we are in a wretched situation. No theoretical checks – no form of government can render us secure. To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people, is a chimerical idea, if there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men. So that we do not depend on their virtue, or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them." - James Madison ---------------- This is a GRP Featured Comment. The #Philippines is highly-educated but functionally-illiterate

Image
Here are some reasons how those 'turkeys' that we call leaders have taken the country to where it is today.. this 'sh*t creek' we can't seem to wade out of. 1) Most Filipinos are functional illiterates even as the country's 'literacy' rate is at 95.3%. Most sales clerks have had at least a year of college; most bus and jeepney drivers have been through high school; all the Armed Forces and Police personnel are high school graduates or better. These ranks do not yet include the government and private sector operatives; nor the teachers.. all of whom have college degrees. I suppose all these help achieve that 95.3%% figure. The problem, however, is that after school, this vast army of 'literate' persons stop learning. There is a dearth of anything to read that might enlighten and enrich their minds. The little that there is, in the way of reading material, is aimed at the 'inteligentia' who can appreciate and afford these trade journals
