The way #Filipinos routinely over-compensate by over-representing themselves

Here's a true story I'd like to share. I was part of the international council at my university and we had a downtown parade where students from different countries would participate. The idea was that one country would be represented by one student carrying their home country's flag. I couldn't carry the Philippine flag because someone else had already taken it.

So on the night of the parade we saw everyone and their flags marching, but then to my surprise the Philippines were being represented not by one, but by multiple Filipinos carrying multiple Philippine flags instead. I'm standing there thinking "What the heck are they doing?" The other students from the other 15 or 16 countries were following the rules, so why did the Filipinos have turn around and overrepresent themselves like that? Bunches of Filipinos would gather at the corners shouting "Yeah, go Philippines! Pinoy Pride!" it just felt very unsettling and undeserving. I don't know what exactly makes Filipinos think they're even qualified to be doing things like this.

Believe me, this isn't even the first time I experienced this. Where I live there are multiple groups, organizations, and associations dedicated to Fil-Am unity and promotion of Filipino identity and culture. I won't go into detail about those but to me it's just so weird. It's like they want other nationalities to just automatically acknowledge and respect them. Stop making so much noise.

Jose Rizal never had Tagalog in mind when he encouraged us to love our own language

Posted by a certain Chloe Santiago on the Facebook GRP Community Group : Jose Rizal died in 1896 and Tagalog was declared the official language of the Philippine only in 1937. This can only mean that Rizal wasn't really talking about Tagalog when he made this statement: "He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish." Indeed. Who made the arbitrary directive to make the Tagalog dialect the "National Language" to begin with? Furthermore, why have a "National Language" when Filipinos are already proficient in the global lingua franca of commerce and scientific achievement?

Filipinos have no right to complain about being fenced off #ASEAN2017 VIP lanes

Perhaps Filipino motorists deserved to be fenced off from ASEAN lanes that have been cordoned  off for the duration of the ASEAN Summit to be held in Manila this week. Filipino drivers, after all, are renowned for being being ill-mannered and inconsiderate and not at all deserving of the privilege of using public roads to begin with. Indeed, according to this Top Gear report , most Filipinos cheated their way through the process of acquiring a driver's licence.. Assuming you actually took the Land Transportation Office's written examination while applying for a driver's license for the first time--as opposed to just paying off the LTO officer in exchange for a passing mark--there's a good chance you encountered a fixer anyway. What Yellowtards fear: Irrelevance and redemption for the Marcoses and Arroyos

It's not really a Duterte dictatorship that Yellowtards fear but a looming Macapagal-Marcos political alliance. The scions of Cong Dadong and Apo Lakay are on a mission of redemption. They want history to be kinder to their respective plights. In the case of GMA, she wants to be remembered as the President who did more for the country post-Marcos and not the President who replaced Erap in a civil-military coup. She also wants to remove the ignominious circumstances of her detention for five years on trumped up charges. In the case of Bongbong, the Marcoses have been enjoying a renaissance already. Nothing would validate this more than a return to Malacañan as President or Prime Minister depending​ on the outcome of the move to amend the Constitution.
