Is it normal to be smiling while taking photos at a wake?

What is wrong with this picture?

A fundamental law of motion of social media

What makes a Noynoy fan

A teacher asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Noynoy fans.

Not really knowing what a Noynoy fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Juan..

The teacher asked Little Juan why he has decided to be different... Again.

Little Juan said, "Because I'm not a Noynoy fan."

The teacher asked, "Why aren't you a fan of Noynoy?" Juan said, "Because I'm a Nacionalista."

The teacher asked him why he's a Nacionalista. Little Juan answered, "Well, my Mom's a Nacionalista and my Dad's a Nacionalista, so I'm a Nacionalista."

Annoyed by this answer, the teacher asked, "If your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot, what would that make you?"

With a big smile, Little Juan replied, "That would make me a Noynoy fan."

More conflicting and anomalous accounts on the plane crash that killed Sec. Jesse Robredo #salamatjesse

More questions are coming up as to what really happened in the minutes before the plane crash in which Secretary Jesse Robredo and two pilots died (and in which Robredo's aide Jun Abrazado survived).

The Inquirer reported that Abrazado "embraced the secretary as they braced for impact but Abrazado lost consciousness when he hit his head on the back of the seat in front of him as they hit water". Does someone who loses consciousness as a result of a blow to the head remember the specific cause of his loss of consciousness? According to an article published by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), people who suffer such a trauma or concussion "often cannot remember what happened immediately before or after the injury, and they may act confused." Furthermore, "a concussion can affect memory, judgment, reflexes, speech, balance and muscle coordination."

According to the Inquirer report, this was what supposedly happened as the plane sank: "Unable to find Robredo, Abrasado managed to eventually unfasten his seatbelt and swam out of the sunken plane." However, according to the Visayan Daily Star report, "Abrazado was able to unfasten his seat belt, then tried to loosen the seat belt of Robredo but to no avail."

So what really happened?

Bayan Muna Representative Teddy CasiƱo's hypocritical extension of condolence to Jesse Robredo #salamatjesse #epalwatch

Have I said enough already about the duplicity commies are famous for? Perhaps not yet. A press release issued by MalacaƱang today includes this statement from one of them:
Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Teddy Casino said he sends his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Secretary Robredo.

“Secretary Jesse was an outstanding local chief executive and a very competent Department Secretary. He was one of the few Cabinet members who we truly respected and appreciated. We were witness to his compassion for the informal settlers whose violent demolitions we both tried to stop. His death is a big loss to the cause of good governance,” he said.

Funny that, considering some time ago, CasiƱo's politburo was reportedly calling for Robredo's head to be served on a platter...

Translation:
DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo appealed to critics to defer their call for him to resign his position until the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) completes its investigation.

A number of House Representatives have been calling for Robredo's resignation including Bayan Muna partylist along with a number of congressmen who also hail from Robredo's hometown in Bicol.

Sotto the Pimp

Vicente “Tito” Sotto is no stranger to exploiting the ignorance of the common man. After all, his entire career from showbiz to politics has been nothing more than pimping “bread and circus”—just like Willie Revillame in Wowowee or whatever its latest version is on TV. By the way, I really enjoy watching the dancing girls around Willie for they indeed appeal to my basest instincts. The only difference is, Sotto has successfully pimped himself to the Senate; whereas, Willie has the decency to remain where he rightfully belongs.

As if to justify his political existence at an institution that is only perverted by his presence, Sotto pimps himself anew by pandering to the Almighty Catholic Church with an emotional performance, revealing “that he had an offspring who died due to complications which he believes arose from his wife, the actress Helen Gamboa-Sotto, having used birth control pills.” He went on to relate that it would have been the 37th death anniversary of his son.

Of course, Sotto’s constituents (more or less the same as the Wowowee constituents) would suck this up hook, line and sinker—much to the delight of the Anti-RH Bill sector of the Catholic Church. However, I see a pimp who is yet again exploiting another high profile issue to perpetuate his political irrelevance through emotional misinformation.

In a TV interview shortly after Sotto’s Anti-RH Bill speech, Dr. Alberto G. Romualdez Jr., former Secretary of the Department of Health, refuted any correlation between birth control pills and the death of Sotto’s child. Yet, this doesn’t matter to Sotto’s constituents. It also doesn’t matter that Sotto refuses to be accountable for the decisions and actions that he and his wife made over 37 years ago. Instead, he channels his personal guilt trip to pursue a so-called “mission” that (a) gains public approval for himself, (b) offers a superficial “do-nothing” diversionary palliative and (c) exacerbates the erosion and the ignorance of civic duty. Sotto pimp politics at its finest!

Aftermath of the habagat: triumphalist memes

Yes, but is it idiot-proof and idiocy-proof? Is it negligence-proof and mediocrity-proof?  Apparently not!

I would think twice before brandishing such triumphalist slogans all over again.  The bottom line remains: We continue to wallow in our mediocrity and inability to change yet brandish this as "resilience".

This reminds me of a line from a classic song: "Oh when will they ever learn? Oh when will they ever learn?..."

Filipinos too stupid to solve EDSA traffic jams

Traffic on Metro Manila's main artery EDSA being jammed by public utility buses loading and unloading indiscriminately in the middle of the road. This is one of the obvious problems plaguing the country that Filipinos tend to be too stupid to do anything about.

Contraception leads to corruption - or so the Catholic Church claims.

From a Facebook page:

"The Catholic Church in its rally yesterday claimed that contraception leads to corruption. I tried to see a statistical basis for this assertion and gathered a few random countries' contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR, in percent) and corruption perception (rankings). It turns out that the Philippines, with the lowest CPR is the most corrupt, and countries with high CPRs (the U.S., Turkey, South Korea, Australia) were the least corrupt. What this means to me is that contraception is associated with the dissipation of corruption, contrary to what the Catholic clergy says."

I disagree with the statement that contraception and corruption are inversely correlated, i.e., more contraception leads to less corruption.  At the very least, though, it shows that a correlation, much less causality, between contraception and corruption has not been established.  So much for that moronic argument of the Catholic Church.  They've got nothing left but to use straw man arguments, appeal to emotion, appeal to tradition, and worst of all, appeal to fear, to hold on to whatever little relevance they still think they have left in modern society.

Unless we Filipinos get our heads out of the gutter and stop surrendering our ability to think and act for ourselves, we will never see the real causes of corruption and the other problems that plague our society.
